Class actions specialist moves to Minters from HSF

MinterEllison has hired litigation specialist David Taylor from Herbert Smith Freehills, appointing him as partner.

Taylor, who specialises in bet-the-company class actions and product liability matters, joins MinterEllison’s Sydney office as class actions become an increasing part of Australia’s legal landscape, said partner Ross Freeman, MinterEllison's risk, regulatory, insurance, and controversy leader.

“With the rise in class actions in Australia, class action risk is a paramount concern to companies, their boards and general counsel. Not only are securities class actions being driven by increasing shareholder activism, but filings of product liability-related class actions are also on the increase,” Freeman said. “David's track-record in advising companies in class actions is impeccable.”

Taylor has been involved in some of Australia's most high-profile, bet-the-company cases. His keen interest in loss assessment and the expert evidence that is a key battleground in class actions, including event study analysis and fundamental valuation techniques, has made him a go-to specialist in his field, Freeman said.

In addition to major class actions, he also specialises in product liability and crisis management, with a practice that encompasses all areas of commercial litigation. Taylor also provides recall advice for major Australian and international companies in the consumer, retail, manufacturing, and medical and pharmaceutical industries.
