Brisbane firm infiltrates Melbourne market

Continuing its rapid expansion, Brisbane specialist insurance firm Barry.Nilsson will open its doors in Melbourne’s CBD next month.

The move follows the 2014 launch of its Sydney office, and pent up demand from national insurance clients for the firm to expand into multiple states.

“It’s consistent with our strategic direction which is to be a leading insurance firm in Australia,” said managing partner Don Leembruggen.  “At this point, we’re just focusing on our insurance expansion; we’ve got a number of top 10 insurance clients that we act for only in Queensland and our objective is to act for a number of those clients and other clients on a national basis.”

Barry.Nilsson was established in 1963, specializing in insurance and health, property and commercial and family law.  Insurance lawyers Nieva Connel, Hubert Wajszel and Peter Ewin will head up the firm’s Victorian insurance practice, growing the firm’s insurance lawyer headcount to a total of 55.

“With an increasing client base on the East Coast, it was an integral part of our client service strategy to have a physical presence in the major cities of Sydney and Melbourne,” said Leembruggen.  “Hubert, Peter and Nieva are excellent additions to our insurance team, bringing with them over 55 years of experience in insurance law, and the opportunity to expand on the legal expertise and training we can offer our combined client base.”

“Opening an office in Melbourne is a milestone in the growth of our firm, which has successfully operated for more than 50 years,” he added.
