Baker McKenzie has snagged a top partner from Gilbert + Tobin.

The global firm has appointed Duncan McGrath, who established and headed G+T’ senior debt capital markets (DCM) and securitisation practice, to the partnership.

In addition to his knowledge in DCM matters, McGrath brings to Baker McKenzie a practice that covers a wide range of areas, including securitisation, leveraged and general finance, peer-to-peer lending, insolvency and restructuring, blockchain, and smart contracts.

Before G+T, McGrath was with Allens, Allen & Overy, and Goldman Sachs.

Anthony Foley, Baker McKenzie’s national managing partner, said the firm is delighted that McGrath, a highly commended first-class DCM lawyer, is joining the firm’s expanding team in Australia.

“We’re excited to have Duncan join us.  Not only will he enhance our Australian domestic capital markets practice, he’ll also add to our cross-border capability, working alongside our capital markets lawyers in other key money centres,” said Ben McLaughlin, who heads the firm’s Australian corporate group.

McGrath said that his work is increasingly becoming cross-border in nature.

“Baker McKenzie's expertise in US debt capital markets, as well as other markets including London, Europe, the US and Asia, was a major factor in my decision to join the firm,” he said.
