A global firm has hired a legal director of a major international investment bank.

Baker McKenzie has appointed Antony Rumboll as partner in Sydney. Rumboll comes to the firm from UBS, where he was the executive director for legal and compliance. He handled equity capital markets (ECM), mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and corporate transactions legal matters.

Anthony Foley, Baker McKenzie Australian managing partner, said that Rumboll has gained a reputation for his technical excellence and strong business acumen. Koen Vanhaerents, the law firm’s global head of capital markets, said that the new partner will deepen its talent in the ECM and M&A teams.

In his 10 years at the financial institution, Rumboll was involved in many of the biggest corporate transactions in Australia, including the Qube takeover of Asciano, the proposed Tatts-Tabcorp merger, the QR National IPO, the Telstra 3 Share Offer, the 2010 Shell-Woodside block trade, and recent IPOs such as MYOB, Healthscope, and Link.

Rumboll said that his move provides him with the opportunity to work across both local and global financial markets on leading ECM, M&A, and debt capital markets matters.

“I look forward to continuing the strong relationships gained during my time at UBS, and to utilise the experience and expertise gained for top tier investment banks, financial institutions, private equity firms, corporations and government clients,” he said.

Before UBS, Rumboll was with Herbert Smith Freehills and London firm Bristows.
