Baker McKenzie hires former Ashurst Qld managing partner
Baker McKenzie has hired another senior lawyer from a rival top firm in Australia.

The global firm has appointed John Lobban, previously a partner at Ashurst, as of counsel. He is a former Queensland managing partner at Ashurst and was also a member of the firm’s national board.

Lobban’s appointment comes after Baker McKenzie’s recent hire of Gilbert + Tobin partner Duncan McGrath.

Anthoney Foley, Baker McKenzie national managing partner, said that Lobban, a respected lawyer in Queensland’s legal and business communities, is a welcome addition to the firm’s Brisbane office, which has seen a significant uptick in insolvency and restructuring work.

Lobban’s practice is focused on distressed investing and debt trading, litigation and dispute resolution, and restructuring and insolvency. He is an annual contributor to the World Bank Publications on credit and business in Australia. He is the past chair of the Queensland Law Society Insolvency Committee.
