Australian retail group forms alliance with help from KWM

King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) advised an Australian retail group as it prepares for the arrival of Amazon by forming a joint venture with an iconic automotive brand.

KWM advised Supercheap Auto, the Super Retail Group’s auto accessories chain, in forming a joint venture with Bosch. The new venture will establish full-service auto-repair workshops branded “Autocrew - Powered by Supercheap Auto” across the country, beginning with one in Western Sydney early next year.

“The deal recognises the market opportunity created by the increasingly complex and digital nature of automotive systems, for a technology-driven, full-service auto workshop offering,” said Rhys Casey, KWM’s lead partner on the deal.

Casey, who is based in Brisbane, was supported by solicitor Stephanie Courtice.

Super Retail is a long-standing client of KWM.
