Two firms from down under advise as a global movie distributor sells its stake in Singapore’s largest cinema chain
Two Australian firms have advised in the sale of a global movie distributor of its interest in Singapore movie theatres to its joint venture partner.
King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) acted for Hong Kong’s Orange Sky Golden Harvest, which bought out its partner, Australia’s Village Roadshow, from the Golden Village cinema chain. Village Roadshow was advised by Thomson Geer.
The Thomson Geer team was led by consultant Peter Nankivell. He was assisted by partner Peta Thompson, senior associate Lisa Marcus, and lawyer Matt Persico.
Village Roadshow and Golden Harvest established Golden Village, which now operates 11 multiplexes and had a net profit of around $20m in 2016, about two decades ago. Village Roadshow, which reported a net loss of $66.7m in the year to 30 June, said that proceeds will be used to pay debts and pursue growth strategies.
