Ashurst nabs NRF partner
Ashurst has appointed Nigel Deed as partner in its mergers and acquisition practice, marking the third lateral partner hire of the international law firm in Australia this year.

Deed, who has more than 13 years’ experience advising corporate clients, joins the firm from Norton Rose Fulbright. An expert in advising equity participants on consortium bids and ongoing joint venture arrangements, he has significant cross-border experience after being based in London for several years.

His appointment follows the hiring of partners John Brewster and Shane Kyriakou in Melbourne in early February. Brewster was hired from Clayton Utz, while Kyriakou from Herbert Smith Freehills. All three are part of the M&A practice.

The Ashurst M&A team advised IFM Investors and AustralianSuper on the $16.2bn Ausgrid acquisition last year and Crown Resorts on the agreements regarding shareholding in Melco Crown, which will generate $1.9bn for the company.
