Allens has named a new practice director in Papua New Guinea.

David Hill has returned to the firm after he left its litigation and commercial practices.

The hiring comes after Corrs Chambers Westgarth raided the firm’s Port Moresby offices.

“We warmly welcome David back to Allens. David has 30 years’ experience as a commercial lawyer, both within corporate law firms and by leading the legal function for in-house counsel,” said Richard Spurio, managing partner.

Spurio said that Hill is a business leader in PNG, respected by his clients and the broader business community.

Allens has also hired Asher Chillion as senior associate. Chillion, an alumnus of the firm, joins the disputes and investigations practice.

Earlier this month, Corrs confirmed that it is opening in Port Moresby with the hire of a team from Allens. Vaughan Mills, who joined Corrs as a partner, led the Allens PNG office for nearly two decades. He is joined by special counsel Nick Thorne and Kenneth Imako, senior associate Ryan Warokra, and associates Emmanuel Rere and Jeff Mesa.
