Alleged lawyer murderer to be retried

by |
A woman found guilty of murdering a Wollongong lawyer has successfully appealed her conviction.

Michelle Sharon Proud will now be retried for the murder of Katie Foreman, according to a report by AAP.

Prosecutors alleged that Proud was part of a joint criminal enterprise to kill or badly injure Foreman by setting fire to her house while she slept and that she and another woman crept into her house in the early hours of the morning back in 2011 before dousing her bedroom in petrol and setting it alight.

The NSW Court of Criminal Appeal found that the trial judge had made an error in his summing up on Monday and ordered a retrial of the murder sentence.
