AJ&Co Lawyers have continued their work for an American hospitality and gaming giant, this time acting as legal counsel in a casino resort acquisition in Darwin.
The Brisbane-based commercial law specialists advised Delaware North, which agreed with SKYCITY Australia to acquire the SKYCITY Darwin Casino.
The AJ&Co team was led by corporate advisory partner Jonathan Whybird, who was supported by real estate and commercial partner Sarah Bird and structuring and regulation partner Mark Lowis. The team worked closely with the US company’s legal teams in Australia and the US on due diligence and negotiating the purchase.
“We assisted Delaware North in entering the Australian gaming market with the acquisition of the Aspley and Shafston Hotels earlier this year, and adding the Darwin casino to its portfolio will provide an excellent opportunity for Delaware North to show the Australian market why they are leadings in the international hospitality and gaming space,” Whybird said.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but numerous reports say that the purchase was made for $188m.
AJ&Co’s work has earned praise from the client. Gary Brown, Delaware North Australia managing director, said: “Jonathan and his team at AJ&Co were invaluable in this significant transaction for Delaware North. They worked tirelessly and pragmatically on this complex deal, with their exceptional service delivery a clear standout.”
