Allen & Overy (A&O) has looked to another Magic Circle firm to boost its corporate M&A offering in the Greater China region.

The firm has appointed partner Jack Wang from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Wang has more than 20 years’ experience in cross-border M&A, private equity, and general corporate transactions.

The seasoned lawyer, who was last based in Freshfields’ Shanghai office, acts for both international and Chinese investors in various sectors including automotive, consumer, and healthcare.

“Supporting our clients in their strategic China-related corporate matters is one of our key global priorities,” said Richard Browne, A&O’s global co-head of corporate. “Jack’s deep understanding of and familiarity with both Chinese and international clients, along with his Chinese language skills, will make him a valuable addition to our growing team in China.”

Wang speaks fluent English and Mandarin Chinese. He is also a US-qualified lawyer.

Victor Ho, A&O’s China managing partner, said that cross-border M&A into and out of China remains active despite recent policy developments driven by the Chinese government.

Wang’s move follows A&O’s appointment of corporate M&A partners Wayne Lee, Lina Lee, and Jonathan Hsui.
