Scott Colvin’s strong combination of technical know-how, client service skills and commercial ability, have made him a leading practitioner in the corporate, capital markets, M&A and technology/IP spaces, with a particular focus on blockchain, cryptocurrency and other emerging technologies. That diverse skillset has seen Colvin develop a strong client base of his own, acting as a trusted adviser for clients ranging from early-stage startups to established businesses. In the last 12 months, he has acted on significant capital raisings and other commercial transactions for leading clients such as Nauticus Exchange, Australia’s leading cryptocurrency exchange, and Shping, a pioneering blockchain startup. Colvin has also worked on significant M&A transactions and has taken a leading role in many key areas. Those transactions include the $700 million merger of Turi Foods and OSI International, and the recent acquisition by Perpetual of insurance brokerage Priority Life. On these transactions, he provided structuring and key commercial advice, as well as drafted important documents affecting each transaction. A pre-law career as a musician, startup founder and business analyst has given Colvin a deep commercial understanding that is rare for junior lawyers, and which allows him to think ‘beyond the law’ and provide advice on broader strategy and commercial points.
