Rising Stars 2020

Company: Coca-Cola Amatil
Title: Legal counsel
Age: 29

Nick Phillips first did a secondment at Coca-Cola Amatil prior to starting in its legal team. Having assisted Amatil’s sales teams to secure massive wins, he is proud to have been an integral part of the extension of its Hungry Jack’s supply agreement to 2030; winning Pizza Hut’s Australian business for the first time; and securing supply to Craveable Brands (Oporto, Red Rooster and Chicken Treat) and Hilton Hotels, along with negotiating numerous other supply agreements across Amatil’s packaged beverage, bottled water and vending businesses. Phillips has been heavily involved in supporting the procurement team’s engagement of suppliers across industries such as packaging, telecommunications, ingredients, equipment and consultancy, and negotiating the terms on which Amatil procures its goods and services. This has included being the ‘legal lead’ in renegotiating a major logistics contract for Amatil’s entire Australian business, and jointly leading the update and ‘refresh’ of over a dozen procurement contract templates. He’s also taken up opportunities to work more closely with the customer agreements team to develop resources and improve processes. On top of ‘business as usual’ work, Phillips has also advised on other major projects, including Amatil’s involvement in container deposit schemes.
