Cameron Loughlin is the head of employment legal for Uber’s businesses in ANZ, advising on cutting edge issues shaping the future of work. With tens of thousands of individuals using the Uber app in Australia as driver or delivery partner, Loughlin is at the forefront of the gig economy working on some of the most challenging problems facing modern day businesses concerning employment, independent contracting, safety, taxation, commercial, competition and other laws intersecting with workplace regulation. He has successfully sustained Uber’s business model in Australia and acted as legal counsel in important litigation involving the gig-economy, including the first case to find that a gig-economy worker was not a casual employee, and one of the first cases globally to find that an Uber Eats delivery partner was an independent contractor. He is named in Doyle's Guide as one of Australia's Leading In-House Employment & WHS Lawyers, is featured in the Legal 500's Guide to Rising Australian Stars for 2019 and was a finalist for In-house Lawyer of the Year at the 2019 Australian Law Awards. He is also the APAC representative for Uber’s pro bono legal team, working with global counterparts to identify pro bono initiatives in the region which can be supported by the company’s in-house legal team.
