Sparke Helmore has elected a new board chair in Roland Hassall, head of the firm’s national employment service line.

Sydney-based Hassall stepped into the role last Thursday. He succeeded Andrew White, who held the position for the past three years.

“I’m honoured to take on this role at Sparke Helmore. The board is focused on ensuring that we create real value for our clients and our people and I’m excited to be at the helm for the next three years,” Hassall said.

He is a partner in Sparke Helmore’s workplace team, and is an accredited specialist in employment and industrial law. He has been with the firm since 1992, and has worked with executives and managers on various employment law matters throughout his tenure.

Hassall has also worked as an in-house counsel on secondment, and holds a Master of Laws. In addition, he is active in the community and graduate programs established by Sparke Helmore.

“I congratulate Roland on his appointment and look forward to working closely with him over the next three years. I have no doubt Roland’s expertise and enthusiasm will prove invaluable in this role, further contributing to the success of the firm into the future,” national managing partner Phillip Salem said.

Salem also praised White’s contribution to Sparke Helmore during his term.

“Andrew has undertaken the chair role with distinction, demonstrating strong and effective leadership that has seen the firm make great strides forward in the last three years,” Salem said.
