Two lawyers in Australia have made partner in a major promotions round at HFW.

Peter Sadler and Owen Webb are part of the biggest cycle of partner and legal director elevations in APAC at the firm since 2013, the firm said. Their appointments take effect on 1 April.

Sadler operates from Perth as part of the dispute resolution team. As a general litigator, he focuses on commercial disputes in the energy, mining, and industrial sectors across Australia and overseas.

In particular, he is interested in tackling complex or technical disputes settled through arbitration. He has also guided directors and corporate clients on their responses to regulatory actions and investigations.

Webb is based in Melbourne and works with the commodities team. He has represented clients on contentious and non-contentious matters related to the international sale and carriage of goods. His specialisation covers the sale and purchase of commodities, ancillary contracts of carriage (bills of lading, charterparties and contracts of affreightment), sanctions laws, vessel arrest and maritime personal injury.

Sadler and Webb join Edward Beeley (Hong Kong) and Suzanne Meiklejohn (Singapore) as HFW’s newest APAC partners. Meanwhile, Nicola Hui (Hong Kong) was named an APAC legal director.

“More than half of our new partners globally are based in Asia Pacific, and this is our largest round of senior promotions in the region for over a decade”, said managing partner Jeremy Shebson and global senior partner Giles Kavanagh. “We have ambitious global growth plans, which include building further scale and broadening our strong client offering in Asia Pacific. We have already achieved significant growth in APAC – increasing our size in the region by more than 70% since 2016. We see plenty of opportunity for further sustainable growth and will continue to invest in our Asia Pacific business”.
