Seyfarth Shaw has boosted workplace health and safety team in Australia with a new partner and a new senior associate.
Penny Stevens joins the global firm’s partnership in Melbourne, bringing over 25 years of expertise in all aspects of work health and safety and criminal law. She is also knowledgeable when it comes to international employment law.
She has provided advice on the legal obligations of safety professionals, as well as on industry best practice and risk mitigation strategies. She has assisted clients in prosecutions, coronial inquests and investigations, and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Victoria, the Court of Appeal and the High Court of Australia.
For the past three years, Stevens has received recognition from Doyle’s Guide for her expertise in workplace health and safety.
“Penny is acknowledged as a market leading workplace health and safety lawyer who further enhances our reputation for high stakes litigation and advisory work for leading employers,” said Darren Perry, Seyfarth Shaw’s Australia managing partner and international practice co-chair.
He said that Stevens’s reputation within the firm and with the firm’s clients had preceded her.

Her knowledge and experience in workplace health and safety is a fantastic addition to the firm as we continue to focus on responding to the complex workplace law needs of our Australian and international clients,” Perry said.
The firm also welcomed Gina Carosi to the roster as a senior associate. She and Stevens will work alongside partners Paul Cutrone and Sarah Goodhew on the workplace health and safety team.
Goodhew, who joined Seyfarth Shaw in 2015 when the firm introduced its workplace health and safety practice, made partner in January.
