Kelly Rees SC has joined the Supreme Court of New South Wales bench.

“As a specialist in commercial disputes, property and insurance law, professional liability, and commissions of inquiry, Ms Rees brings a wealth of legal knowledge to the bench,” NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman said. “Before being called to the Bar, she was a senior associate at one of the Australia’s largest law firms and also worked for an internationally recognised London firm where she handled corporate fraud and white collar crime cases.”

The senior counsel, who was admitted to the Bar in 1998 and took silk in 2012, is currently a member of Eleven Wentworth. Before that, she was a senior associate specialising in commercial disputes at legacy Mallesons Stephen Jaques.

She is a graduate of the University of NSW, earning the Sir Kevin Ellis Prize for the best performance by a student in the combine commerce and law degrees. She earned her LLM (First Class) from the University of Cambridge.

Her appointment will bring the number of female Supreme Court judges to 11. She will be sworn in on 5 September.
