KWM projects experts act on $2.6bn road link

Sydney Airport trusted King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) for legal advice for its latest billion-dollar project.

KWM advised the airport on Sydney Gateway, a high-capacity road link between the WestConnex St Peter’s Interchange and Sydney Airport. The project is valued at $2.6bn.

KWM said that it advised on both the design and construction, as well as the compliance and approval aspects of the project, which is an initiative by the federal and state governments to improve road and rail access to Sydney Airport and the surrounding Port Botany area.

The global firm fielded a projects team led by partner Chris Mitchell, who was supported by senior associate Meadhbh Cacciaguidi-Fahy and solicitor Josh Atallah. The firm’s banking team also supported the transaction, with partner Yuen-Yee Cho and senior associate Zoe Anderson also advising on the deal.

The major road project will “provide a new route to enhance connections and reduce travel times to and from the airport,” Mitchell said.

KWM also played a lead role in the winning $9.3bn bid for WestConnex.
