KPMG Legal Thailand launched

KPMG Legal Thailand has been launched by the global professional services giant to provide legal services in the Southeast Asian country.

The legal services unit has a focus on business law services, which includes commercial and corporate law, M&A and restructuring, employment law, legal compliance and investigation, and privacy law, it said.

KPMG is also touting its already-established audit, tax and advisory services in the country as an edge for its overall offering. It said that its legal advisers understand the nuances of the industry and work with other KPMG professionals in other units as an integrated “one-KPMG” team.

“In Thailand, there is an increasing need for businesses to implement business transformation programs that need an integrated legal approach and business methodologies, not just pure legal advice,” it said.

Stuart Fuller, KPMG International’s global head of legal services and APAC regional leader for legal services, said that the launch reflects the business’s global strategy to grow its legal services network and capability.

“The increasing relevance of the Asia Pacific to our clients from a markets, business and strategic perspective has seen KPMG’s global legal services network expand in Hong Kong and Shanghai in the last 12 months, strong growth in Australia, Vietnam and Taiwan, and now the launch of KPMG Legal in Thailand,” he said.

Fuller, who was formerly the global managing partner at King & Wood Mallesons, said that KPMG expects to see strong and continuing growth in its legal services footprint and capability in the region Asia. In December, it was reported that KPMG was eyeing an expansion in China.

KPMG Legal has more than 2,400 lawyers across 79 jurisdictions around the world. That extensive network benefits clients, said Charoen Phosamritlert, chief executive of KPMG in Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos.

“No matter the industry sector our clients operate in, they can count on our network of legal services professionals to bring deep insight and experience that are in play in those industries,” he said.
