Eight law firms among top 100 employers Australian graduates seek

Eight law firms are among the 100 companies that graduates in Australia regard highly.

GradAustralia’s Top 100 Graduate Employers 2020 report found that the most attractive law firms in Australia for soon-to-be graduates are:

  1. Allens (32nd)
  2. Herbert Smith Freehills (38th)
  3. MinterEllison (43rd)
  4. Clayton Utz (53rd)
  5. King & Wood Mallesons (56th)
  6. Ashurst (68th)
  7. Corrs Chambers Westgarth (86th)
  8. Gilbert + Tobin (93rd)

Almost all firms improved their rankings from last year’s results, including top finisher Allens, which moved up by one spot from being 33rd.

The big movers this year were HSF, which was 55th last year, and MinterEllison, which was 67th.

Despite being overtaken, Clayton Utz still improved from its 65th-place finish in 2019, while KWM also stepped up from its 61st spot. Ashurst remained at the same spot relative to other law firms on the list, but it also improved from its 79th rank in last year’s list.

Corrs improved its performance by two places, while the only law firm to slide in the rankings was G+T, which was 83rd in last year’s list.

Ashurst, Clayton Utz, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, HSF, and G+T were also among the 24 firms that won in Australasian Lawyer’s Employer of Choice 2019 rankings.

Those firms were chosen for their approach to employee development, gratification, and overall wellbeing. The qualitative and quantitative data used for the ranking included information on pay, diversity and inclusion, training and professional development, health, and wellbeing.

For its Top 100 Graduate Employers 2020 report, GradAustralia surveyed 2,684 students across Australia.
