DLA Piper launches corporate bribery risk detection tool powered by AI

DLA Piper has launched Aiscension Bribery, an AI-enabled service for detecting corporate bribery risks.

The solution was developed in partnership with AI-powered e-Discovery software provider Reveal. DLA Piper lawyers trained the software to recognise various forms of bribery behaviour, such as the receiving or giving of bribes, bypassing internal protocols, kickbacks, and facilitation payments.

“Being found guilty of bribery and corruption poses a serious threat to organisations both in terms of fines and penalties as well as the potential damage to reputation, which can be unquantifiable,” explained Natalie Caton, Brisbane partner and Australian lead for white-collar crime and investigations at DLA Piper. “With the Commonwealth Government’s focus on anti-corruption policy, adopting AI technology to identify red flags is increasingly prudent.”

Reveal’s end-to-end platform powers the custom model, which employs adaptive AI and behavioural analysis. Aiscension Bribery can analyse data in over 100 languages, as well as identify patterns and anomalies in large volumes of textual data.

DLA Piper explained that the AI also “triangulates data in ways human reviewers can’t.”

“By combining DLA Piper’s deep legal knowledge with Reveal’s leading AI technology, we’ve created a solution that slashes investigation and compliance review times while enhancing accuracy and cost-effectiveness,” said Wendell Jisa, founder and CEO of Reveal.

Global data from the past five years indicate that publicly announced fines related to bribery exceeded US$14bn.
