Rocket Lawyer whizzes to Continental Europe

The US-based online legal services provider will first launch in France with planned rollout to Spain and the Netherlands next.

Rocket Lawyer is expanding to continental Europe after inking a joint venture with European legal publishing company Editions Lefebvre Sarrut (ELS).

The US-based online legal services provider will first launch in France this autumn, hoping to expand to Spain and the Netherlands next, a report from The Law Society Gazette said.

The joint venture is backed by Google Ventures, Morgan Stanley Ventures and Swiss bank Salfort Privatbank.

Rocket Lawyer allows users to create legal documents researched and written by legal staff which can be signed online and accessed from any connected device. It also allows users to get legal advice such as for document reviews.

It initially launched in the United Kingdom four years ago and has since attracted more than 200,000 to sign up for the service there.

The Law Society Gazette said that users in the UK have already created more than one million legal documents and they work with more than 100 UK lawyers for the more complex tasks users of the service have.

According to The Lawyer, Rocket Lawyer has around 15 million registered users who create about 30 million legal documents a year and about 10,000 lawyer engagements every month.

Charley Moore, the founder and CEO of Rocket Lawyer, did not reveal his company’s revenues but told the publication that it is in excess of $40 million.

He also told The Lawyer their plan is to grow organically in Europe as opposed to acquiring other companies.

“We’ve built a technology platform that enables us to support the laws of local jurisdictions and so our plan is to build organically rather than by acquisition,” Moore said.

“Our market is the entire adult population of a country. We’re proud of the commitment ELS is making to deliver European lawyers with modern digital tools to bring the benefits of affordable legal services to all.”
