Lighter Side: Alleged phone pilferer appears in court

A UK client up on drugs charges has been accused of stealing his lawyer’s phone.

A lawyer’s role includes, first and foremost, protecting and promoting client interests.

But what if that said client decides pinch your phone?

One 25-year-old man in the UK has been accused of swiping his own barrister’s mobile during an appearance at the at Bexley Magistrates’ Court last month.

Charlotte Johnson was acting for Bobby Heath, who was up on drug and driving offences, when it is alleged he stole her £300 Samsung mobile phone from a window sill after the pair discussed Heath’s payment of fines.

Heath had pleaded guilty to charges of possession of cannabis and driving without insurance, and was fined £165 by the Magistrates and ordered to pay further costs of £170.

He appeared in the same court on Tuesday on the charge of the theft of Johnson’s phone - which he denied.

He was released on unconditional bail until his trial at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court on November 12, and details of the alleged theft were tweeted by Scotland Yard's @MPSBexley account.
