King & Wood Mallesons has scored former MinterEllison partner Sam Farrands in Hong Kong, appointing him as head of projects in its construction practice.

Farrands, who spent 20 years at MinterEllison after a four-year stint at Clifford Chance, specialises in projects and has extensive experience advising developers, contractors, financiers, and governments on major projects and privatisations throughout Asia.

He focuses on the infrastructure, energy, water, and wastewater sectors, and is also an expert on public private partnerships. Standout mandates includes Hong Kong’s first PPP project, in which he advised the consortium building the new HK$2.3bn international exhibition centre at Chek Lap Kok airport.

Farrands – who’s admitted to practice in Hong Kong, England and Wales, and Australia – also led the winning consortium for the SkyCity Hotel PPP project.
