Elizabeth Carrol provides strategic legal services to IP Australia to support its vision of creating a world-leading IP system building prosperity for Australia.

Carrol and her team have recently been involved on exciting projects including:   

  • TM-Link, a single, internationally-linked trademark database used by IP offices and researches across the globe; and   
  • Smart Trade Mark, a multi-award winning blockchain initiative which creates a digital fingerprint for trademark owners to prove the authenticity of products exported around the world.     

Under Carrol’s lead, the legal team undertook system innovations, including a user-friendly web-based risk-assessment tool, new online advice request form, and new use of software to more effectively manage and monitor information access requests. Carrol also has personally drafted IP Australia’s Pro Bono Policy and achieved its adoption by the agency. The National Pro Bono Target opened to inhouse teams on July 01 this year, with IP Australia becoming a foundation in-house signatory to the target.

Carrol’s has been listed as one of eight IP authorities in Managing Intellectual Property Magazine’s global list of the 50 Most Influential People in IP in 2019. She is also a finalist in the Government lawyer of the Year category of the 2020 Lawyers Weekly Corporate Counsel Awards.
