Victorian Bar to hold panel discussion on lawyers and film

This month, the Victorian Bar is set to host Lawyers on Film a panel discussion aimed at examining the convergence of legal practice and cinema.

The session is a response to increasing interest in real-life legal narratives playing out in livestreamed court cases. The event will feature barrister John Ribbands and writer-director Daryl Dellora, who has released law-themed documentaries like 2024’s The Search For The Palace Letters.

Scheduled as an exclusive event for Law Week 2024, Siobhán Ryan KC will moderate a discussion that is expected to examine legal storytelling. The event will focus on the intricacies of filming actual legal professionals and their work, including its lure, the responsibilities and the ethical dilemmas.

In preparation for the discussion, Dellora’s documentaries will be available for streaming via Film Art Media.

The event is scheduled for 23 May.
