Three additions have enhanced the partnership at Gilbert + Tobin (G+T) this quarter.

The firm brought in former UniSuper GC Luke Barrett last month and welcomed back Chris Flynn and Nirangjan Nagarajah in January.

Barrett was appointed the leader of G+T’s superannuation team, working from Melbourne. He brings over 25 years of expertise in superannuation law and investments.

“This is exciting because it is the first time in years that superannuation funds will have a refreshing new option for obtaining external advice, from a firm renowned for being innovative and doing things differently. Having been in-house counsel for so long, I understand what funds need from their external advisers”, he said.

At UniSuper, Barrett was GC for five years. He launched and headed up the novel Investments Legal team for a decade, managing a portfolio of large-scale private market transactions and tackling regulatory investigations, mergers, disputes, shareholder class actions, governance, and investment management agreements.

Meanwhile, Flynn and Nagarajah were partners at G+T before making the jump to White & Case, where Flynn spearheaded its APAC energy and power practice. On returning to G+T, both joined the energy and infrastructure practice.

Flynn has over 25 years of experience handling global energy-related transactions, while Nagarajah is an M&A specialist within the energy and infrastructure sector.

“Chris’ decade-long association with our firm, coupled with his leadership and expertise in the energy sector, will play a major role building the capability of our energy transition expertise. Nirangjan's return solidifies G+T’s position as a leading corporate and M&A firm in the Melbourne market. His experience and leadership in M&A transactions in the energy and infrastructure sector significantly bolsters our capabilities", G+T founder and chairman Danny Gilbert said.
