These are the most attractive employers for UK law students

A public agency beat tech giants and Magic Circle firms as the most attractive employer for UK law students in a new survey.

UK law students are most attracted by the Crown Prosecution Service, topping Google and Clifford Chance, which were second and third, respectively, according to Universum in a survey of 2,923 law students.

Slaughter and May and Allen & Overy complete the top five, the international talent market researcher found. At sixth is the Civil Service, followed by the BBC, Apple, Linklaters, and the National Health Service.

  6. ITV
  7. PwC

Universum also broke down salary expectations, top career goals, most preferred industries, and the five most important attributes of employers for the 39,900 students surveyed, including the nearly 3,000 law students.

Among Gen-Z students, the average expected monthly salary is £2,271. Their top career goals are to have balanced work and lives, to be secure or stable in their jobs, and to be dedicated to a cause or to feel they are serving a greater good. This generation most prefers the media and advertising industry, followed by public-sector and government agencies, as well as arts, entertainment, and recreation. Their top five employer attributes are future high earnings, professional training and development, clear path for advancement, secure employment, and inspiring purpose.

Gen-Y students expect a slightly higher salary, with an average of £2,300. Millennials identified the same career goals as their younger peers. Their most preferred industries are educational and scientific organisations, followed by health care services, and public sector and government agencies. Their top five employer attributes are professional training and development, followed by clear path for advancement, high future earnings, leaders who will support development, and inspiring purpose.
