Mills Oakley attracts public law specialist from Moray & Agnew

Mills Oakley has brought into its Canberra partnership a public law specialist from Moray & Agnew.

Scott Moloney is an expert in all aspects of public law. He has handled matters involving statutory interpretation, administrative inquiries, merits review, judicial review applications, FOI and Privacy Act issues, common law claims against governments and public authorities and discretionary compensation schemes.

He has appeared before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Federal Courts for cases involving interlocutory applications and substantive hearings. His experience is bolstered by his secondments at a number of Commonwealth departments and agencies.

In addition, Moloney serves as a legal officer in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve, where he advises Command and individual Australian Defence Force members. He has tackled issues related to administrative law, legislative and policy development projects and workplace inquiries.

Prior to making the switch to Mills Oakley, he had been a partner at Moray & Agnew for seven years. Moloney now leverages his experiences in his new role as a partner in Mills Oakley’s Commonwealth government team.

“I have observed Mills Oakley consolidate its reputation as a collegiate national firm which is committed to the growth of its Commonwealth government practice,” Moloney said. “I am looking forward to being part of the firm and contributing to Mills Oakley’s innovative, progressive culture.”

CEO John Nerurker praised Moloney’s appointment and said that Moloney would “add a new dimension” to the practice.

“We are focused on maintaining the right mix of expertise in our Commonwealth government practices across every office,” Nerurker said. “The addition of Scott’s deep public law expertise provides an ideal complement to the broad commercial offering in our existing government practice in Canberra.”

Moloney started with Mills Oakley on Monday.
